1.1 Dark Manifold is a narrative sci-fi strategy game in which you command a starship, manage ship systems, complete daily missions (manifests), and experience AI-generated story encounters. It is available as a web application, an iOS app, and an Android app.
1.2 The App is developed and operated by Christoforos Gkimpas, an individual software developer based in England, United Kingdom. Dark Manifold is not a company or studio.
1.3 The web version is hosted on Netlify and uses infrastructure provided by third-party services including Supabase and Anthropic. The iOS app is distributed via the Apple App Store and the Android app via the Google Play Store. Use of those third-party services is subject to their own terms, which apply independently of and in addition to these Terms.
1.4 Dark Manifold is a work of fiction. All characters, vessels, factions, locations, and events depicted in the game are entirely fictional and do not represent any real persons, organisations, or events.
2.1 The App is intended for users who are at least 13 years of age. By using the App you represent and warrant that you are at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
2.2 We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access if we have reason to believe these age requirements are not met.
2.3 The App contains AI-generated narrative content that may include themes of conflict, danger, loss, and moral ambiguity. It is not intended for young children.
3.1 Dark Manifold is provided solely for entertainment purposes. The game’s narrative content, including AI-generated encounter text, crew stories, and world-building, is fiction and should not be taken as advice of any kind.
3.2 Game outcomes (success, failure, crew survival, story progression) are determined by a combination of player strategy, game mechanics, and AI-generated narrative. We make no guarantee that any particular play style will produce any particular outcome.
3.3 AI-generated narrative content may vary between encounters. This is a core feature of the game and does not constitute a defect in the service.
3.4 We reserve the right to modify game mechanics, balance values, difficulty, scoring systems, narrative content, and any other aspect of gameplay at any time without prior notice. Such changes are part of the normal operation and ongoing development of a live-service game.
4.1 Free Tier. The Free tier is provided at no charge. Free players can access basic game features but cannot access AI-generated encounters or subscriber-only content. The Free tier has no time limit.
4.2 Subscription (GBP 15 per month). The subscription unlocks AI-generated encounters, full daily manifests, and all subscriber features. The subscription is priced at GBP 15.00 per calendar month.
4.3 Payment Methods. Subscriptions can be purchased through two channels:
4.4 Auto-Renewal. Paid subscriptions renew automatically each calendar month via your chosen payment method (Stripe or Apple). You will be charged on the same date each month unless you cancel. You may cancel at any time as described in Section 6.
4.5 Price Changes. We reserve the right to change subscription prices at any time. If the price increases, we will notify you at least 30 days in advance. You may cancel before the new price takes effect. Continuing to use the App after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the new price.
4.6 VAT. All prices shown are inclusive of VAT where applicable.
5.1 AI-generated encounters consume computational resources (API tokens). The subscription price is set to cover these costs sustainably.
5.2 We reserve the right to apply reasonable usage limits on AI-generated content within any 24-hour period to prevent abuse and ensure fair access for all subscribers. Any such limits will be communicated in the App.
5.3 You must not attempt to manipulate, exploit, or circumvent usage limits through technical means, multiple accounts, automated tools, prompt injection, or any other method. Doing so is a material breach of these Terms and will result in immediate account suspension without refund.
6.1 Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 (SI 2013/3134), consumers ordinarily have a 14-day right to cancel distance contracts. Regulation 37 provides that this right is lost where digital content has begun to be supplied with the consumer’s prior express consent and their acknowledgement that the cancellation right will be lost as a result.
6.2 By subscribing and completing payment, you expressly:
6.3 Once your subscription is active and you have accessed any subscriber feature, no refund will be issued for the current billing period, regardless of how little of the month remains.
6.4 Cancelling a Stripe (Web) Subscription. You may cancel at any time through the Manage Subscription option in the App, which opens the Stripe customer portal, or by contacting us at info@darkmanifold.co.uk. Your subscription will not renew at the end of the current billing period. No refund is issued for the period already paid.
6.5 Cancelling an Apple (iOS) Subscription. Apple In-App Purchase subscriptions are managed entirely by Apple. To cancel, go to Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iOS device and cancel Dark Manifold. Refund requests for Apple purchases must be directed to Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We have no ability to issue refunds for purchases made through Apple.
6.6 Cancelling an Android Subscription. Android subscriptions are processed by Stripe. To cancel, use the Manage Subscription option within the App or contact us at info@darkmanifold.co.uk. Your subscription will not renew at the end of the current billing period. No refund is issued for the period already paid.
6.7 Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 where the digital content is not as described or is of unsatisfactory quality. In such circumstances, contact us at info@darkmanifold.co.uk.
7.1 We will make reasonable efforts to keep the App available. However, we do not guarantee that the App will be available at all times or free from interruptions, bugs, or errors.
7.2 The App requires an active internet connection. It does not function offline.
7.3 We reserve the right to discontinue, withdraw, or permanently shut down (“sunset”) the App at any time, for any reason, including but not limited to: changes in personal circumstances, third-party service unavailability (including the Anthropic Claude API, Supabase, Netlify, Stripe, Apple, or Google), commercial unviability, or regulatory changes.
7.4 If we decide to sunset the App:

7.6 We accept no liability for any loss arising from the unavailability or discontinuation of the App beyond what is required by applicable English law.
8.1 Dark Manifold uses the Anthropic Claude API to generate narrative encounter text. Claude is a third-party service. We do not control, operate, or warrant the specific outputs of Claude and accept no liability for the accuracy, appropriateness, or consistency of any AI-generated content.
8.2 AI-generated content is fiction produced for entertainment. It does not represent the views, opinions, or endorsements of the developer or of Anthropic.
8.3 AI-generated narrative may include themes of conflict, danger, moral ambiguity, loss, and challenging situations consistent with the game’s sci-fi setting. We make reasonable efforts to keep content within the game’s intended tone, but individual outputs may vary.
8.4 Game state data (ship configuration, system power levels, mission context) is transmitted to Anthropic’s API for narrative generation. No personally identifiable information is included in AI requests. By using the App you consent to this data transmission, subject to Anthropic’s privacy policy at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
8.5 AI-generated narrative content may vary between encounters for the same game state. This variability is a core feature of the game and does not constitute a defect.
8.6 We reserve the right to modify the AI models, prompts, caching systems, or narrative generation pipeline at any time. Such changes may alter the style, tone, or character of generated content.
9.1 You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You must not share your account with any other person.
9.2 Each account represents one player and one game save. Account sharing undermines the integrity of the game and its leaderboard systems.
9.3 We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account without notice if we detect or reasonably suspect:

10.2 Violation of this Section constitutes a material breach of these Terms and may result in immediate account termination without refund.
11.1 The design, code, artwork, character designs, story content, world-building, game mechanics, and AI prompt engineering in Dark Manifold are owned by Christoforos Gkimpas. All rights are reserved.
11.2 You may use App content solely for your own personal, non-commercial entertainment. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, sell, or publish any part of the App’s content without prior written permission.
11.3 Game save data associated with your account (ship state, progress, inventory) is stored on our servers. You do not own the virtual items, currency, or progress within the game. These exist only as part of the game service and have no real-world monetary value.
11.4 AI-generated narrative content produced during gameplay is not a copyrightable work owned by either party. You may not claim intellectual property rights over AI-generated outputs.
11.5 “Dark Manifold”, “Carrion Plea”, and all character names, faction names, and story titles within the game are the intellectual property of Christoforos Gkimpas.
12.1 To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we exclude all liability for:
12.2 Our total aggregate liability to you, whether in contract, tort, or otherwise, will not exceed the total subscription fees paid by you in the three (3) months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
12.3 Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for: death or personal injury caused by our negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under English law.
13.1 You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Christoforos Gkimpas from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in connection with:
13.2 This indemnification obligation survives the termination of your account and these Terms.
13.3 The indemnification obligations in this Section are not subject to the limitation of liability cap in Section 12.2 and shall apply in full regardless of that cap.
14.1 Christoforos Gkimpas is the data controller for personal data processed through Dark Manifold. We process your personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Full details are set out in our Privacy Policy.
14.2 Lawful Basis for Processing. We process your personal data on the following lawful bases:
14.3 Your data is stored using Supabase infrastructure (hosted in Ireland, eu-west-1). We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
14.4 Data Processing Locations. Your personal data is processed primarily within the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area. Our third-party processors and their locations are:
14.5 Data Retention. Your game data is kept as long as your account exists. After account deletion:
14.6 Your Rights. Under UK GDPR you have the right to: access your personal data; rectify inaccurate data; erase your data (“right to be forgotten”); restrict processing; data portability; and object to processing based on legitimate interests. 14.7 Data Breach Notification. In the event of a personal data breach that poses a risk to your rights and freedoms:

17.1 We may update these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via in-app notification or by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect.
17.2 Continued use of the App after the effective date of any update constitutes acceptance of those changes. If you do not accept updated Terms, you must stop using the App and cancel your subscription before the effective date.
18.1 These Terms and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them are governed by the law of England and Wales.
18.2 Both parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you are a consumer resident in Scotland, Northern Ireland, or Wales, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of those jurisdictions.
19.1 Force Majeure. We shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations where such failure or delay results from circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to: third-party service outages (Anthropic, Netlify, Supabase, Stripe, Apple, Google), internet disruptions, natural disasters, government actions, or pandemics.
19.2 Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be enforced to the maximum extent permissible and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
19.3 Entire Agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding your use of Dark Manifold and supersede all prior agreements, representations, and understandings.
19.4 No Waiver. Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that right or provision. Any waiver must be in writing and signed by us.
19.5 Third-Party Rights. Except as expressly provided in Sections 15 (Apple) and 16 (Google), these Terms do not confer any rights on any person or party other than you and us. No third party may enforce any provision of these Terms under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999, except as stated in Sections 15 and 16.
19.6 Assignment. You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations under these Terms to a successor or acquirer.
